Which Mechanical design software is the best?
August 05, 2022Hello Friends, welcome to “Learn mechanical design from Rahul.” Myself Rahul. I am a Mechanical Engineer and a blogger as well. I have recently started my blogging journey. I feel like sharing my experiences through blogs with you. Blogging was my passion for a very long but recently I have started taking steps toward writing.
I have completed my Mechanical engineering from
Khargone. It’s in M.P. After that I joined a company where I started working in
the Production and quality department. After working for 3 years in the
Production and Quality field I started feeling stuck. So as every Engineer do I
also did a certification course. That course was in Mechanical Design.
In less than one year I became a certified
Mechanical Design Engineer. And in that 1 year, I fell in love with Mechanical
designs. And after that, I did all my jobs in the design field only. Because
when you like something from your heart “ये दिल मांगे more.” Now for the past 2 years, I am doing and
enjoying my job in the Mechanical Design field. This blog is just a way of
expressing my love for Mechanical Designs.
So let’s talk more about Mechanical design now. If you are reading my blog for
the first time make sure you follow my blogger page right there on the left
side of this page.
Mechanical design is the basic term for engineering design. Mechanical design is to design parts, components, products, or systems of mechanical nature. For example, designs of various machine elements such as shafts, bearings, clutches, gears, and fasteners and automobile parts such as bus parts, car parts, truck parts, train parts, and airplane parts fall into the scope of mechanical design.
There are many types
of the domain used in mechanical design such as-
1.
sheet metal
2.
plastics
3.
body in white (BIW).
There are many types
of materials used in the design of mechanical parts such as-
1.
Cast iron
2.
Stainless steel
3.
Plastic
4.
Metal
5.
Rubber
6.
Mild steel
And to implement our work in these many areas
there are various 2D and 3D software used.
There are many types of 2D & 3D software used in the design of mechanical parts such as-
Two dimensional-
- Autocad
Three dimensional-
- CATIA
- UG-NX
- SOLIDWORK
- CRE-O
- AUTODESK INVENTOR
- SKETCH-UP
- SOLIDEDGE
- FUSION 360
Analysis software-
- ANSYS
One of the most common question people ask me
when we discuss about Mechanical design software is what system configuration
is required to run this heavy software.
This is the system requirement for running
CATIA, UG-NX, SOLID WORK, AUTODESK INVENTOR, SKETCH-UP, SOLID EDGE, AND FUSION
360 are….
System configuration-
- Processor- 2.10 GHz
or higher (i3, i5, i7, and ryzen 5)
- Memory (RAM) - 8 GB
to 16 GB
- Graphics Card-
NVIDIA GTX 4GB
- Operating system –
Windows 8,8.1,10,11
- SSD- 256 GB to 512
GB
And I generally suggest SSD. SSD is new
technology compared to HDD. You may complain about cost but if you want the
best results then you have to invest some money. Go for SSD and trust me you
will not regret it.
The 2nd most asked question to me is which is the best software for designing. According to me, CATIA is the best software in the Mechanical design field. This software is developed by DASSAULT SYSTEMS. This is a French-based company. CATIA is a 2D drafting and 3D modeling software. It is used for CAD, CAM, and CAE. CAD means Computer aided designing, CAM means Computer-aided manufacturing and CAE means Computer-aided engineering. The license version of CATIA cost up to 7-10 lacks one time. Many giant companies are already using this software. This software is mainly used by companies working in plastic product design.
it is used for part design, sheet metal, plastic part design, assembly, and drafting. it is used in various types of a company such as automobile parts manufacturing companies (bus design, trucks design, car design ).catia is used mainly by plastic product design companies. CATIA software is used in MNC companies because it is costly in price. Here is a diagram showing in which field CATIA is used. This diagram will tell you a lot of things. The full form of CATIA is a computer Aided Three Dimensional interactive application.
CATIA= “COMPUTER-AIDED
THREE-DIMENSIONAL INTERACTIVE APPLICATION"
As I told you I am going to share my
experiences here with you about Mechanical Design Software. We are starting
with CATIA. In my next blog, I will help you understand the user interface of
CATIA. It looks like this. Take a look at the next diagram.
